Exams at university are gone, HwBot this month host the interesting Geil contest, so here I’m with the trusty 920 and EVGA E760.
To be honest the idea was to play with my new MSI 990FXA-GD80 and Phenom II 955 B.E. – bought them, not press samples for review or so – but the lack of decent BIOS for the mobo made me change the plan and give priority to the contest.
The 2 Sandy Bitch stages don’t attract me so much, but the Intel 1366 one is another story, I’m a big fan of this stuff, so I joined the game.

EVGA E760 – bios 77
STT & KHX 2k cas8 MGH-E-Hyper
PCP&C 1200 Watt
6200 LE PCI-E
WD scorpio 160 GB sata
2003 Server TW tweaked + custom CW

I had some issue with the Uncore, when using 2.6 DRAM divider (that’s one of the competition rules) Uncore ratio different to 16x will end in an overclocking failed message; too bad, because this way I had around 4000 MHz of Uncore, with the usual 5000 MHz the 32M would be 2 or 3 seconds faster.
Except for that everything else was nice and smoothly, even the 6 sticks of mixed Super Talent and Kingston worked without any problems with the CPU at high BCLK.

6.50.828 – 1th place on 15-07-2011

With the LN2 left I did a quick try with the AMD rig, I don’t have screen shots but did 2 or 3 3dmark 01 nature at 6500 MHz before the mobo went crazy and stopped working properly.

In the next weeks I will give it another try hoping that in the meanwhile MSI had fixed up some annoying BIOS issues.

:: UPDATE 16-07-2011 ::

I had the feeling that this CPU must be something good, today’s afternoon tried with 2 litres or so of LN2 the max frequency and…
6601.9 MHz with 1.95 volt and pot leaned on the CPU.

No other words needed I think.
